When it’s all crazy, where do you start?

frustrated mom in messy room

I hear you.

The house is crazy, the kids are crazy, the day is crazy, It’s all crazy!

And when it’s all crazy, it doesn’t seem to matter what you do.  It all just gets crazy again.

So, when you’re trying to get your life together, where do you even start?

Be the change you want to see in the world

Right now, it may seem like everything is on fire.  Everywhere you turn, something is demanding your attention and the little bits here and there that you do to keep from being burned don’t add up!

First of all, you need to calm down, take a deep breath, and remember what Mahatma Gandhi said:

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Because, seriously, he was right.

At the moment, your world is your home and family.  And you know things need to change.  So the first place you look is yourself.

Make an oasis

Every hurricane has an eye – a place where there is calm amidst the chaos.  That is what you need to make in your home.

The ideal is that this is an area where you have the most control, but it can really be anywhere.  Your bedroom is a great place to have it, but there was a time when mine was a bathroom.  The point is, this one area of you home is always tidy.  It is the place where you can go when everything else is falling apart and you just need a reminder that order is possible.

Some of you reading this may already have a space like this.  If so, way to go!!  I’m proud of you!  If not, let’s get one started for you.

Where to start

Let’s start small.  Small changes are sometimes easier to make than big ones.  So, here is your task:

  1. Make your bed

That’s it!…for now.  Just make your bed every day.  You’ll be surprised how much that will help.

But there is a catch!  Once you make your bed in the morning, you are not allowed to put anything on it.  Got that?  Nothing.  Nada.  Zip.  This is now your oasis bed, and it is to remain clean and tidy.

Now you have a place where you can go to find just a little bit of peace.

As time goes on, make your oasis grow.  Clear off your dresser, tidy up the floor, take back your nightstand.  Eventually, you will have a nice clean room that will stay clean no matter what.  Clutter is not allowed here.  This is your special place.  When life gets crazy, this is one place where you can go to remember that peace is possible.  You may want to find a way to fit a nice, comfy chair in there now, so you can take a few minutes and relax as needed.

In the meantime, enjoy your family.  Embrace the craziness of today.  Your kids love you, and that relationship matters more than the fires around you.  You got this, warrior mama!

Chaos can really wear a mom down, but it’s not something we have to put up with just because our kids are small!  If you are trying to bring order to your home, and you’re looking for a method that works, try an All That membership so you can take control of your home in a way that builds your family and fills your bucket.  Love your life, your home, and your family.

This is such a great tip! I spend so much time trying to stay on top al all the mess the kids make, my own spaces end up neglected and being just as chaotic.
